Maintenance Supervisor

About the Candidate
The Maintenance Supervisor is a hands-on leadership role critical to the function of our city. This position splits time between supervising a maintenance technician and actively participating in the maintenance and repair of streets, water, sewer systems, equipment, and city properties. We are looking for a motivated, skilled individual who leads by example and possesses a strong blend of technical expertise and supervisory skills.
Essential Functions

Plans, schedules, assigns, and inspects the work of maintenance staff.

Provides training, guidance, and leadership to ensure work is performed safely, efficiently, and to a high standard.

Operates and maintains a computerized work order system.

Assists in preparing the annual maintenance budget and monitors expenditures.

Responds to citizen inquiries and concerns regarding public works issues.

Collaborates with other city staff on relevant projects and tasks.

Performs and leads crew in the maintenance and repair of city infrastructure, including streets, water distribution lines, sewer collection systems, buildings, and equipment.

Operates heavy equipment and machinery (e.g., dump trucks, loaders, backhoes, mowers) for construction, repair, and maintenance projects.

Performs manual physical labor including snow removal, lawn maintenance, and utility meter reading/repair.

Performs other duties as assigned.
Preferred Qualifications

• An associate’s degree in a related field (e.g., Civil Technology, Public Administration) or other equivalent education. Equivalent experience is also acceptable.

At least two (2) years of experience in public works, construction, or a related maintenance field, with at least one (1) year in a supervisory or leadership role.

Extensive knowledge of methods, materials, and equipment used in public works maintenance (water/sewer systems, street maintenance, heavy equipment operation).

Strong problem-solving, organizational, collaborative, and communication skills.

Proficiency with computers for email, word processing, spreadsheets, and work order systems.
Requirements

Must possess a valid United States driver's license.

Must be at least 19 years of age at the time of hire.

Must have, or be able to obtain, a valid Class IV Water Operator’s License as defined by the State of Nebraska within one (1) year of hire.
